Today we would like to introduce you to one of our favorite new French pastry spots in Austin. True French pastry is something that is incredibly difficult to get right. It is a combination of crisp crackling outer layers and moist delicate inner layers, not too sweet but infinitely flavorful. This bakery really gets it right particularly in their Kouign Amann (shown on the left) and their Pain au Chocolat (not pictured). The Kouign Amann is a Breton pastry created from croissant dough that is mostly about the caramelization of butter and sugar. Bakery Lorraine adds a non-traditional but delicious puddle of sunny lemon curd within the crisp pastry layers. Their Pain au Chocolat (chocolate croissant) is a little taste of Paris right here in Austin.
They recently opened a location at the Domain near the Apple store where they serve up a lovely menu of breakfast and lunch options. Their take on French has a little bit of Austin mixed into it, but it is still delicious.
